Meet Ms. Hoang, our 5th Grade Teacher
Ms. Hoang’s fifth grade classroom is a place where learning goes beyond academics. Her students describe her as “kind,” “amazing,” and “funny,” noting her ability to make lessons enjoyable and engaging. But what truly sets her apart is her deep commitment to teaching her students about God and His Word. In addition to the standard curriculum, Ms. Hoang integrates Bible teachings into every part of her day, making faith a central part of her students’ lives.
Ms. Hoang's journey into teaching wasn’t one she had initially planned. After earning a Bachelor's in Sociology, she found herself struggling to secure a job that didn’t require further education. Her mother (our very own Ms. Choi) encouraged her to try substitute teaching as a temporary solution, and Ms. Hoang found herself drawn to the upper elementary level. She went on to pursue a Master’s in Teaching at Northeastern University and earned her teaching license. Ms. Hoang says, “I’m thankful for the people the Lord used in my life to guide me toward this path, where I could encourage others and use the gifts He has given me to glorify Him.”
Her students’ growth, both academically and spiritually, is a highlight of her teaching. Ms. Hoang takes joy in watching them deepen their understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, celebrating their progress even when they stumble. She shares, “I’ve come to regard my students as my own flock, the Lord has given me for a short nine months. I try to make the most of each opportunity to point them to His Word and lead by example.” One of her favorite events of the year is the annual fundraiser for HeartCry Missionary Society, where students put into practice what they have learned by supporting people groups who have yet to hear the Gospel.
What makes Ms. Hoang’s classroom truly special is the atmosphere she fosters. Her students describe her as “encouraging,” “humorous,” and “creative.” She believes that students thrive in an environment that balances structure, clear expectations, and heartfelt relationships. Laughter and joy are central to her teaching philosophy, as Ms. Hoang knows that humor creates a welcoming space for learning. Her approach to teaching is rooted in love and care. “Students need direction and ‘shepherding,’ but they also learn best when they know they are loved by the one leading them,” she explains. This approach helps her build strong relationships with her students, creating a safe and supportive environment for them to learn.
On what Ms. Hoang loves about teaching at SSCA, she says "I love the wide open door SSCA provides for the gospel and the myriad of opportunities to minister to the students the Lord has given me in the truth of His Word and His saving Gospel. The platform SSCA provides to honor the name of Jesus Christ and sow His Word into children's hearts is a blessing that would be utterly difficult to part from or lose. I am so thankful that He has granted me the platform and open door He has!"
The impact of Ms. Hoang’s teaching goes far beyond her classroom walls. Her students, past and present, speak of her with admiration, gratitude, and respect. Through her dedication, faith, and love for teaching, Ms. Hoang continues to shape the lives of future leaders, encouraging them to grow both in knowledge and in their relationship with God. We are blessed to have Ms. Hoang as part of the SSCA family!
