Music At SSCA

South Shore Christian Academy's music program is designed to nurture and grow every student's musical ability, recognizing that every student possesses the ability to create beautiful art. Our desire is to promote music as an art and to provide our students with a well-rounded music education that exposes students to a variety of excellent music.

Lower School:
Within the Lower School, students participate in music classes as part of their weekly schedule. Students in Grades 3-12 can take small-group music lessons and perform in Band and Orchestra ensembles. Students in Grades 4-12 can join Chorus.

Upper School:
All students in Grades 6-8 take music as part of their standard curriculum. For the high school, SSCA offers Beginner and Advanced Guitar classes, as well as Music Theory.

SSCA has a rapidly growing ensemble program! Current offerings include Choir, Jazz Band, the SSCA Worship Collective, as well as Band and Orchestra through our partner organization, Paul Effman Music.

Recent Highlights:
In May 2020, Lower School students recorded a virtual performance of Jesus, Strong and Kind, by CityAlight. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, our students recorded this performance at home.

In June 2021, the SSCA Worship Collective released a full-length album, Faithful, on SoundCloud. This album was recorded and mixed by SSCA Senior Kevin Norton '21.

Upcoming Events:
In April 2022, our high school students will have the opportunity to go on a Choir Tour! During this tour, our high school choir will perform with other high-level high school ensembles in a festival at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City. The performance will be conducted by the internationally-recognized Dr. Jamie Hillman (Director of Choral Studies, University of Toronto).
