Pre-K FAQs
What are the ages for your Pre-K program?
Our Pre-K class is for students who have turned 4 years old by September 1 of the current school year. Pre-K students will be age-eligible for Kindergarten the following year. Our Preschool program is a great option for any students that don't meet this age cut-off!
What are the hours for the Pre-K program?
Our school day starts at 8:30 AM and goes until 2:45 PM. However, we do offer free before-school care beginning at 7:30 AM and we also have an after-school program available for students from Preschool through Grade 5 that goes until 6:00 PM. The cost for our after-school program is $10 per student per hour.
Is lunch included in tuition?
We do not provide lunch for our Pre-K students, but we do have an easy and convenient online lunch ordering system through a third party vendor. Families can sign up online and order lunches through this system.
What is the curriculum?
We used a number of curricula for our different Pre-K programs and activities, but we focus primarily on developing academic foundations in math and reading through small-group and individual instruction. Students use our Learning Centers to gain exposure to subjects such as art, science, and social studies, while also developing social, language, and fine motor skills.
What types of Learning Centers do you have?
Some examples of Learning Centers found in our Pre-K classes include: Listening Center, Music & Movement, Construction Junction, Story Center, Science Center, Dramatic Play, Writing Center, and Make & Take Center. Pre-K students also attend Chapel, P.E., Art, and Music each week.
How do teachers manage behavior in Pre-K?
Our teachers provide consistent direction toward positive, constructive behavior, and they will also encourage students to make personal behavioral corrections when necessary. Our teachers explain from the outset the potential consequences of behavior and encourage each student to make positive choices, and, when necessary, our teachers lovingly explain how a student can change his or her behavior.
Are there uniforms for Pre-K?
Yes! Even our youngest students at SSCA get to wear SSCA uniform shirts and they love to do so and know they're a part of our school family. Our Pre-K students are not required, however, to wear specific uniform pants.
