Arts at SSCA
We believe that the Fine Arts are essential in shaping Christian character and supporting the mission and philosophy of South Shore Christian Academy. Visual and performing arts provide an avenue for students to uniquely express themselves and understand the value of arts as a part of our shared humanity. We value education and engagement in theatre, visual art, and music from Pre-K through Grade 12.
Within the Lower School, students participate in art and music classes as part of their weekly schedule. Upper School students continue in the visual arts and have the opportunity to take Advanced Art classes through Grade 12. Theatre course offerings include a Grade 8 Theatre Appreciation class and a Grade 12 Theatre Performance and Production course. In addition, classroom curriculum incorporates Theatre in Education, a process which incorporates interactive theatre practices which enhances learning and understanding.
Outside of the classroom, we offer various extracurricular opportunities in music and theatre. Students in Grade 3-12 can take small-group music lessons and students in Grades 6-12 can also participate in the theatre program's two annual mainstage productions which include a blackbox style fall play and a large-scale spring musical. Each production provides opportunities for students to explore different roles in the theatre in both production and performance.
Student engagement with the Fine Arts at South Shore Christian Academy gives them an appreciation for creativity and encourages them to carry out the mandates of Micah 6:8 through their artistic endeavors.
