South Shore Christian Academy is a Christian, Preschool - Grade 12, college-preparatory, richly diverse day school south of Boston, Massachusetts. We are on a mission to “glorify Jesus Christ by revealing truth, imparting knowledge, stimulating spiritual growth, and developing Christian character in young men and women through a college preparatory curriculum taught by Christian teachers,” so that students can be well-equipped to “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God” in our world.
We are hiring for our part-time Office Receptionist position for the 2024-25 academic year, starting in September, 2024. The position is a one-year position and is eligible for renewal.
This position is typically Monday – Friday from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (except for all school closings)
Job Summary
The receptionist is the first point of call for visitors to the school, parents, staff, and children during the after school hours. As the ‘face’ of the school the receptionist should be welcoming, personable, helpful, and able to represent the school in a professional and friendly manner, while also exercising the initiative and authority necessary to enforce observance of after-school student-safety protocols and procedures. In addition, it is essential that the person for this role is organized, able to multitask, work flexibly and have a ‘can do’ approach to work, as no two days are the same. The receptionist is also required to assist the Office Manager with various administrative tasks. Position is not eligible for benefits. Job Specific Duties
- Communicate regularly from the main office with AfterCare Coordinator and AfterCare Aides to assist AfterCare pick-up.
- To be the first point of contact for visitors to the school, extending a warm welcome to callers – including parents, visitors, contractors and delivery staff.
- To deal effectively with telephone calls, transferring callers to relevant staff and taking and passing on messages as required.
- Monitor the front and back door by answering the door bell from the main office, allowing guests into the building.
- Make building sweeps to monitor student activity in the building.
- To follow safeguarding procedures by issuing passes and lanyards to visitors, ensuring that visitors are signed into the school and checking DBS information for visitors.
- Fulfill the normal work expectations of an office receptionist which include, but are not limited to: supervision of students in the building after school; assisting with AfterCare pick-up protocols; supervising student activities as requested by Administration.
- To ensure that the reception area remains tidy and that literature and forms are updated and replenished as necessary.
- To receive and sign for all packages and deliveries.
Other Duties:
- Perform and such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the HOS or designee.
- Support the Board of Trustees’ mission statements, statement of faith, teaching positions, and philosophy of the school, and to embody the religious positions of the school in all actions.
- Observe professional ethics and confidentiality in dealing with administrators, faculty, parents, students, and community.
- Follow all expectations regarding the HOS’s understanding professionalism, including dress code, social media practices, communication protocols, and collegiality.
- Implement SSCA policies and procedures.
- Publicly support SSCA policies and procedures.
- Maintain continual affirmation of SSCA faith statements and teaching positions.
- Be aware of and comply with all trust and school policies and procedures particularly relating to child protection, equal opportunities, health and safety and security, confidentiality, and data protection; reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
- Carry out all duties with regard to the school’s policies and codes of conduct.
- Set high expectations of conduct, while acting as a good role model for others.
Minimum Requirements
- Must affirm Statement of Faith and Teaching Positions.
- SSCA conducts background checks and employment authorizations.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, talk, hear, see (close and distant vision required).
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
