Description
South Shore Christian Academy is a vibrant, culturally diverse preschool - grade 12 Christian school in Weymouth, Massachusetts, in which music education is an essential and deeply valued part of the student experience.
We are searching for a skilled and passionate music educator to teach PK-8 General Music, AND/OR Upper School Orchestra, at a small Christian school with a dynamic Music department. Depending on promising candidates’ availability and expertise, this position can be either full-time or part-time If the position is filled by two part-time educators, the specific responsibilities may be redistributed among the two roles in order to best match the expertise of the educators.
General Music: Part-time position, or full time when combined with ensemble director (below)
This individual will have formal training in music pedagogy.
Help students from preschool through grade 8 to grow in musical awareness, appreciation, literacy, and skill from the earliest grades through middle school, with ample opportunities at each level to make music with their voices and with various instruments such as ukulele, Orff instruments, keyboards, guitars, and others. Prepare each class to perform a selection at the winter and spring concerts.
Teach grades preschool through grade 5, once per week (eight periods per week)
Teach grades 6-8, every other day for one quarter of the year on a rotating basis
Prepare each class to perform a selection at the winter and spring concerts
Direct winter and spring concerts
Foster a culture of joy and discovery
Exhibit and cultivate Christian character in students
Upper School Ensembles: Part-time position, or full-time when combined with general music, above.
This individual will have experience and expertise in strings repertoire and pedagogy. The ability to direct other student ensembles such as jazz band is an important plus.
Through relationship-building and active recruitment, continue to build the middle school and high school instrumental music programs, both in terms of number of students participating and in terms of quality of musicianship. Direct on-campus performances, and seek out off-campus opportunities to perform and compete, such as festivals, community performances, and touring opportunities.

Other ensemble such as jazz band (meets once per 7-day rotation)

Requirements
Minimum Requirements
Must affirm Statement of Faith and Teaching Positions.
Bachelor's degree in music education or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
Must be proficient in multiple instruments.
Two years of teaching experience or more is preferred.
Must exhibit a high degree of cultural competency to contribute within a multi-racial, multi-denominational environment.
Must exhibit competency in the use of technology in an educational context, including learning management platforms and other applications useful for teaching and learning.
Required to move about campus regularly, including navigating stairs; to sit, stand, talk, hear, see; and to lift loads of 30 lbs.
Must be able to perform job functions remotely if deemed necessary by the Head of School.
SSCA conducts background checks and employment authorizations.
