Throughout the fall, students in Grades 11 and 12 have the opportunity to meet with admission representatives from over 30 colleges and universities including local, regional, national, and even international schools such as Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Seniors are required to attend at least five of these meetings to practice speaking with admission officers, ask questions, and learn more about individual colleges.
College Planning Nights
College Guidance has been pleased to host separate college planning nights for students and families in Grade 12 and Grade 11 during the month of September. On Thursday, October 5, students and families in Grades 11 and 12 are invited to attend a College Financing Seminar facilitated by the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA) at 6:30pm. There will also be a College 101 Night for students and families in Grades 9 and 10 on October 19th at 6:30pm.
College Guidance Study Hall
New this year to college guidance is a College Guidance Study Hall for all seniors. This study hall Provides dedicated time for seniors to work on college applications, meet with visiting college representatives without missing a class, meet for Senior Study Hall workshops, meet with the Director of College Guidance, and work with AP teachers.
Most recently, seniors participated in a workshop where they served on mock admission committees. They read college applications including main profile, recommendations, interview notes, transcript, and college essay for three individual students. In the end, they needed to accept one student, waitlist one student, and deny one student. The results varied in the end for each committee. Students discussed their decision process, how it could be similar to real college admission committees, and how they could use that understanding when applying to colleges this fall.
