Students are learning new routines, making friends with new classmates, and becoming familiar with their new teachers. Miss Cort has been introducing the Chromebooks during computer classes, and they are a big hit! Mrs. O’Connor and Mrs. Hawes have demonstrated instruments and are busy setting up our band and string lessons. Mrs. Cox has matched our upper elementary students with lower elementary students for Reading Buddies, and it will begin on September 19. Students in grades 4 and 5 have been auditioning for the competition chorus.
A new academic year always brings surprises. For grades 2 and 3, they met their new to SSCA teachers – Mrs. Keohane and Mrs. Brown. The students discovered Miss Cort now leads chapel (come join us on Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m.), computer classes, and character education. Mrs. Riddle now works with kindergarten, and there are new faces in the PK with Mr. Nofi and Mrs. Del Rosso.
During the coming months, watch for Grandparents and Special Friends Chapel, Thanksgiving/Christmas events, concerts, March Madness, etc. A fourth grade student was overheard telling a first grader, “You’re going to love doing the animal museum!” Already, students have asked what will be the theme for the winter Reading Incentive Program. (Mrs. Leary and Mrs. Cox have a great, secret idea.) The year is off to a very busy start!
