Dear SSCA Community:

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the leadership plan for SSCA's 2012-2013 school year beginning this fall.

As previously communicated, we interviewed three candidates for the Headmaster position, two for an interim role and one for a permanent role. We appreciate your partnering with us in this process. We received constructive feedback from both the faculty and parents which we reflected on at great length. One of the key themes from the feedback was anxiety about the inevitable disruption created by bringing someone new into the SSCA community.

The Board also discussed and prayed over the key functions our administrative team must perform to enable SSCA to grow and develop. That discussion led us to focus on three key roles: academic affairs, advancement and finance.

As a result of the above, the Board is pleased to announce the following changes effective July 1, 2012.

Kristen Spuck will assume the newly created role of Director of Academic Affairs. In this capacity Kristen will lead all aspects of the high school, middle school and lower school. These functions will include leadership of all faculty members, curriculum, student affairs, college guidance and scheduling. Kristen has done a good job leading the Upper School this year and we are confident she will do the same partnering with lead teacher Beverly Trice for the lower school.

Rick Goodenough will join SSCA as Director of Advancement. The newly created Advancement Function will include the offices of admissions, development, communications, marketing, alumni affairs, parent fellowship and community relations. Rick has enjoyed a long and successful career in the higher education arena with experience in admissions and student loan services. This change will permit Terry Carter to return full time to the classroom. Please join with us in thanking Terry for his dedicated service in admissions and in welcoming Rick to the SSCA community.

Nancy Archambault will serve as our Director of Financial Affairs. We are pleased that Nancy rejoined the SSCA team earlier this year. We are expanding her responsibilities to include: finance and accounting, human resources, facility management and transportation.

We are also pleased to announce the creation of the Office of the Headmaster (the "OH"). We have asked Kristen, Rick and Nancy to be members of this office and to form the leadership team for SSCA going forward. On a regular basis the members of the OH will meet with me in my capacity as Board Chair to assure we are moving forward toward fulfilling SSCA's mission, strategy and operational goals. Nancy will also regularly meet with John Sargent who chairs the Board's Finance Committee.

As you can see, we are not appointing a Headmaster at this time. Our goal is to develop candidates for this role over time from within our leadership ranks. The Board believes this strategy is more consistent with our shared objective of assuring leadership continuity and minimizing disruption.

Please join me in congratulating Kristen, Rick and Nancy. We ask for your

prayers of support for them as they assume their new and expanded roles.

Blessings,

Bradford H. Warner
