2009-2010 Theme Verse

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

NEWS AND UPDATES

Congratulations!!!

Congratulations to Julianne Atwater and Alexandria Waterman who have been named co-valedictorians for the Class of 2010. Not only have both girls distinguished themselves by their excellence in academics, but have also displayed Christian leadership and character in their various extracurricular activities. Julianne has received a full tuition scholarship to attend Eastern Nazarene College where she plans to major in English. Alex has also received generous scholarships from Boston University to major in communications. We wish them well as they continue on with their post secondary education.

Also, congratulations to our new National Honor Society president, Gina LaCasse, who will take over for Alex. Gina, a resident of Marshfield, transferred to SSCA for her sophomore year and has enjoyed her SSCA experience very much. She is a member of the Praise Team, a peer mentor, and is loved and adored by those in Aftercare where she works after school. We look forward to her leadership as she heads NHS next year. Becky Marotta will assist Gina as secretary of the National Honor Society. Becky started school at SSCA in sixth grade and has been a top student. She will continue to serve on Prefect Council next year. Becky is a varsity athlete playing on the soccer and basketball teams.

The vote was close but congratulations to the following students who were elected to the Prefect Council for next year: Brody Loughin, Chanel Lufkin, Becky Marotta, Leah Perera, Kayla White Suplee, and Victoria Todd.

Finally, congratulations to the following students who were elected to the Honor Council:Joseph Bartolo, Danae Olmedo, Scott Reed, Zach Shaughnessy, and Stephanie White. Abbi Girard will serve as alternate.

Medieval Feast 2010 Grade Six

Students in grade six at SSCA have read many stories that are set in medieval times during the year. Tuesday, May 11 we celebrated this era of world history at a Medieval Feast at the dining hall of Castle Es-ess See-Ay (a.k.a., the gym). Thank you to all of the mothers who helped with the set up, decor, tear down, costume-hunting, and food preparation! More pictures will be available soon on Edline.

Students' comments about the feast:

  • "I loved the medieval feast! It was really fun."
  • "I thought the food was amazing."
  • "I think the skits really entertained the guests and helped them get a better idea about what everyone was."
  • "The decorations came together wonderfully and looked great... they caught everyone's eyes...I liked the medieval feel of the party."
  • "Performing the skits was really fun! Everyone liked them, too."

International Food Festival

International Food Festival
Chocolate Mousse, Tres Leches Cake, German Potato Salad, and English Fish and Chips were just a few of the succulent dishes served and tasted at the annual Fifth Grade Food Fest. Faculty, parents, siblings and students enjoyed this culminating activity to celebrate the completion of our Nation Notebook project which students began in the winter.

Each student chose a country of interest and gathered sources, checked facts, composed essays and compiled a book which was an in-depth look at the country. Stop by the Lower School hallway to view these outstanding projects.

Green Chemistry!

The Honor's Chemistry class was treated to a lesson from some of the students from Gordon College about Green Chemistry. Among the students there was our own Emilee Cox, as well as Luke Perkins and Josh Meister. Our SSCA students learned a lot about different ways to conserve energy, as well as conducting an experiment comparing soy candles with wax candles. We observed the soot that is emitted from wax candles; however, nothing is emitted from soy candles - a definite "green" choice.
