Newtonian Takes on a New Meaning
The
"Ookey Oozy" is not a Newtonian fluid. It is classified as a non-Newtonian
fluid. It does not behave like an ideal
liquid. The "Ookey Oozey" is
made up of millions of tiny solid particles of cornstarch suspended in
water. It's a special type of liquid suspension
known as colloid.
Other examples of non-Newtonian fluids are ketchup and
quicksand.They don't behave exactly like your "Ookey Oozey", but they
sure don't behave like water either. The
slower you move through a non-Newtonian fluid, like quicksand, the less
resistance you experience.

Build a Bear (or a lion, or panda, or..... ?)
Parent Fellowship is thrilled to announce
"Animaland". This is a
stuff-your-own collectible animal event similar to the mall store where you can
build a stuffed animal.
This company will be here during our annual Craft Fair on
Saturday, November 22nd. Children will
select, stuff and decorate their own collectible animal. The stuffed animals are of a high quality and
SSCA earns a portion of the profit.
In order to participate, a package must be purchased and be pre-paid by Monday, November 10th using the order form that will have been sent to you. Packages range from $15-$25. If you have further questions and/or do not receive the order form, please contact Jill LeGere.
Parent Fellowship's Christmas Craft Fair
Need extra cash for the holidays? Or need to find a unique
gift for someone? SSCA's Parent Fellowship Committee will be holding its second
annual Christmas craft fair on Saturday, November 22,
The cost to rent a table at the fair is $30.00. Reserve
today--space is limited! Please contact Rose Conroy at 781-297-3778 if you're
interested in renting a craft table or would like to donate a craft for sale at
the fair.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Please join other parents on this day to help with various
tasks at the Craft Fair.You are welcome to work one of two shifts. The first shift is
Helpful tasks will include running the food stand,
monitoring the kids' crafts table, standing at the parent fellowship and raffle
ticket table, and assisting with the money collection table.
We would also appreciate help with set-up on Saturday
morning and clean-up in the afternoon.
If you wish to volunteer but are unable to do so on that Saturday, we will need some help after 12 noon on Friday in order to decorate the gym and the outside of the school. Please contact Sylvia Gaines at 781-267-8264.
Boxtops for Education
Boxtops for Education is a program which enables
participating companies to make donations to specific schools. SSCA takes part
in this program by asking families to collect the small "Boxtops for
Education" emblems on many common grocery product packages. These little
squares are found on many products that you probably already use. Please clip them and send them into school
throughout the year with your child. The Parent Fellowship council will send
the emblems in for redemption. Incentives are given to the

We have received numerous phone calls from non-SSCA individuals who receive our messages on their cell phones. Be sure to keep us up to date!
Vision and Hearing Testing
SSCA's School Nurses will soon begin hearing and vision screening tests for grades Pre-K through 12. If your child wears glasses, please remind them to bring their glasses to school every day.
