Head of School Profile
The Head of School is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the school and reports to the Board of Trustees. As chief officer, the Head of School works in close collaboration not only with the Board of Trustees, but also with a wide range of internal and external constituencies to provide overall leadership and direction for the school. The Head is expected to build upon the existing strengths of South Shore Christian School and to provide strategic, visionary leadership as the school enters the next phase of its evolution.
Key Traits
- Strong Christian Faith- The Head of School of SSCA needs to be a committed evangelical Christian and demonstrate a vibrant relationship with God. The fruits of his or her faith will show in attitude, time, dedication, character, church involvement, and wisdom. Being the Head of School of SSCA will be a passion and a mission of the right candidate, in addition to his or her occupation. The Head of School will be required to sign the statement of faith set forth above (this is a requirement for all school employees and Board members.)
- Leader/Team Builder - This person will be knowledgeable and confident in making decisions. He or she will lead humbly and collaboratively, yet ultimately serve as the key leader of the school. As the school grows, this person will build a strong administrative team that will work together effectively.
- Relationship Builder - The Head of School will have high energy and a gregarious personality, genuinely caring about all the constituent groups of the school. The Head will need to develop external relationships with Community leaders, Board members, Parents, and Alumni, as well as internal relationships with the Faculty and Students.
- Academic Experience - The next leader of SSCA will have professional secondary education leadership experience, will be able to review and develop curriculum plans, will have confidence managing a dedicated faculty, and ideally will have experience with the Harkness educational method.
- Entrepreneurial Spirit - This person will inspire the faculty and will succeed in executing a plan (developed with the Board) to realize the school's potential, will be a hands-on leader, will be visible in the school, will get results, and will get his or her hands dirty in working toward the goals. This person will have the desire and the energy to take the school from its current point and move it forward.
- Visionary - SSCA's next Head of School will embrace a strong existing vision, serve collaboratively, and be able to effectively communicate the vision to others. This person will engage with the community and lead efforts to raise money.
Desired experience
Experience in a relevant educational environment is a necessity. The right candidate may be an administrator in a Christian K-12 or secondary school as a current Head, an assistant Head, or a Divisional leader. Alternatively, he or she may be a committed Christian currently serving as an administrator in a secular private or public K-12 school with a passion for Christian education.
We would not want to categorically exclude anyone because he/she has not spent his/her career in Christian elementary/secondary education, but a demonstrated commitment to education and faith are important.
